HERO3 WiFi does not list Phone/Tablet connection
Just bought the new HERO3 Silver and upgraded to the latest firmware of HD3.02.00.67. I turned ON WiFi in the settings, but the only option is "WiFi RC". Phone/Tablet does not appear at all. I've upgraded the firmware, formatted the SD card (it works - tested), and powered on/off countless times. Pretty frustrating as I cannot connect my iPhone app to it. Has anyone else had this issue?

When I downloaded the app for Hero 3 Silver. I didn't get the GoPro app. My camera shows the phone/tablet choice. The tutorial also mentions I will be able to view videos and pic with my tablet. I am unable to view anything except the preview. Is previewing pics and videos a current feature for the Hero 3 cameras?

Just to make my comment more clear. "GoPro app" doesn't show up as a choice in my WIFi list on the camera.

The WIFI password...
it seems certain characters like "@, &,..." are not "appreciated" by the App (how ? I don't know/understand), as long as you don't use them, it's all fine!
Enjoy the tip! :)
I struggled for 2 weeks on this... the idea was in my synapses but the laziness level was higher... ;)- view 2 more comments

Would that be the WIFI password on my tablet/phone? What password are you referring to?

Got Hero 3 Silver Edition and cannot connect to it with Samsung Galaxy Gio, Android v.2.3.3
My phone sees camera's wifi network, I enter the password, phone tries to connect, but hangs up on "Obtaining IP adress". Does anyone have a clue where the problem could be ? -

Hi All,
First post, ever, but I think I've got an answer for people that are suffering issues with the iPhone/Android app.
I got a Hero3 Black new last week and had, until today, lots of issues with the apps (my iphone wouldn't "see" the H3 wifi or connect, similar with the Google nexus 7, but it would see the H3 wifi, still wouldn't connect) and without knowing it the upgrade itself, all of which appear to be fixed now. Tried all the usual fixes including emailing GoPro, no real result. This is how I got it to work.
1. Reformat the SD card IN THE CAMERA.
2. Connect to the computer.
3. Repeat the firmware upgrade (I did it manually 'cos using a mac), name your wifi connection and log the password. When you put the upgrade files into the root directory of the SD card ENSURE YOU COPY OVER THE INDIVIDUAL FILES AND NOT just the folder named 'Upgrade'. This appeared to be the crucial part! This became apparent after viewing the GoPro video that now sits above the upgrade in their support section.
4. Finish the uograde as per the GP instructions. My H3 then carried out the upgrade as the site suggested. In fact it told me it failed to successfully upgrade the WiFi, so I had to then do it again. Sounds like a fail, but in previous attemps it told me nothing!
5. After this, connecting to either my Nexus or iPhone went easily, ie, in settings of your device select the WiFi connection that you named, enter the password and THEN launch the app. This all worked despite my devices being connected to my home wifi at the time - it just suspended that connection and gave preferance to the H3 and the app!
Hope this might help someone.
If it does, GoPro, feel free to send me a lens cap (why doesn't one come with the camera?)- view 2 more comments

Does anyone know, what IP should the phone use to connect to camera's WiFi ? I want to try to specify the static IP for the phone...

Was able to get my black hero 3 and iphone 5 connected, however, did the manual update. Then had to do the online update again to set the name and password. Also had to restart iphone for it to recognize the new gopro network. Was not able to just forget the network and then find it again. PAIN. Finally it all worked. BUT WHAT THE HELL there is not viewing of files that currently exist. Only a useless COUNT of what I have. ARGHHHHHHHHH. Then I realized that they must want you to buy the new touch screen. Starting to feel like microsoft and currently Apple at their heyday. STUPID. Go Pro and other companies need to start looking after the customer more, i know it is a business, but you need to give the customer a happy feeling not massive frustration or else a competitor will come in and do a better job. The mobile app is a great start, but you need to finish it up with being able to view your library. MAJOR mistake.

for connectivity problems....I have found to make sure that all the camera wifi is on and set to gopro app, BEFORE you turn on your phone to connect...... work every time for me then. Anyone know how on earth to change the password? seems to be a hard one to find.....all my searches only showed hero 2 with the backpack wifi...

You have to Update your HERO 3 again on the gopro.com website!
In the update process you can change SSID and password
After you ́ve done that, you have to eject the camera from the computer!
Turn it back on!
The the display will show: " Updating WIFI Information" -

Hi,
looks like there's some different wifi settings you can get to these through the camera. If you set it to: Phone and Tablet it works, well it did for me and I was having all the same problems:
The go pro manual is here:
http://gopro.com/wp-content/uploads/2...
Also you can get to all the settings too through the camera which I didn't realise before -

Like someone else mentioned, as soon as I turned off 3G on my iPhone it all started working.

I have attempted to update my GoPro Hero 3.... I downloaded the files and uploaded them to the root of the SD Card... Turned the phone on and I got the prompt telling me it was updating..
Once complete I found I was still not getting the Phone / Tablet option in the WiFi settings... Any idea what might have caused this?
Cheers -

For some reason there's NO Phone/Tablet option but I don't think you need it. Just go into wifi settings and select GoPro app.

Aghhhhh, for $400 this thing should work EASILY! I'm not a complete dork with technology and usually like tinkering. But with this thing it's one frustrating thing after another. I can't get it to sync with my android phone or tablet. Tried multiple times. Watch videos, tried again.
Also, when I record longer videos (20-30 minutes) I can't get them to play back anywhere. That's really annoying. I think I'm past my deadline to return this to Best Buy. Really conflicted since I'd love it to work on the motorcycles and Wave Runners. Videos are terrific. But usability really sucks! -

Hi guys, it happen to me before but manage to solved the problem. Reason why is that I've inadvertently deleted the formatted sd card, perhap during the deleting the files in the camera sd card.
To solve the problem, you need to do the folowing:-
1) go to the internet ...go to gopro/update and down load the update.
2) just follow the instruction until you've completed it all.
it will ask you to copy the downloaded file to your PC and and the formatting will done automatically. Once done, you'll be able to find the smartphone/tablet in your wifi setting of your camera.
then you can start using it!!
Cheers!! -

I have the GOPRO HERO 3 Black addition. I had a hard time connecting to it with my iphone 4S. It was due to my mistakes while entering in the information when I updated it. When you have to enter the serial number, which is case sensitive "ALL CAPS", I neglected to turn off my caps lock when i entered the password for the WI-FI part. Then I realized it when I bumped my head, LOL. I hope I'm not the only one who made this mistake, and I hope this post helps someone else.

I canot get my android to hook up again to my hero 3 black , the phone says its to far and I have them right next to each other. I don't get it I did get it to work once before when I first got it after I did the updates. Am I doing something wrong.

I thought I better post my resolution as it may help someone else.
I am not sure how I missed it, but the GoPro produces its own Wifi Signal, which you need to turn on and then have your tablet / phone join the GoPro's network!!!
Your GoPro will NOT join your home network... Your GoPro will make its own network, which your tablet will need to join... -

I have the same issue I only get the wifi rc and no tablet and phone option what do I do??

Any one know why when I've successfully updated the GoPro H3B. Everything works brilliantly (No lock ups.) I then shoot some stuff and upload to computer. I then eject the camera and then format the card ready for th next shoot. In doing this I believe it removes all files on the card and the camera then has to make a new DCIM and MISC file with none of the updates. Something else I have noticed. Pre update the camera shoots 1080p/60fps and this is played back no problems in quicktime from the camera. When I reload the update it is choppy and misses frames during playback every 2 seconds or so.
This is becoming mildly frustrating and I would appreciate any advice to a newbie. -

New GoPro Hero3 black... trying to connect to app... asking me for password. What is the password? I never set one. Is there a default?

I updated my brand new H3 Black, everything ok, paired with iPad and iPhone, paired with remote, everything perfect, great videos, but the camera get hot with wifi on (too much in my opinion, in fact the battery got low too early even with the camera off and wifi on...) But it's not the problem..... turned off and gone to sleep.
The day after turned on the camera, impossible to pair with remote and application, the wifi network I set up the previous day does not appear anywhere, the camera sometimes can't even turn on the wifi device (no blue led blinking).
Tried lot of times, no way, neither replacing the battery.... -
-
My camera has quirky moments also.
I removed the battery for up to 1 minute. Then reinstalled the battery.
Camera is working without any problems.
My camera gets hot also. -

Two things
had a heck of a time getting mine to connect. Android Razr and Hero3 silver.
re-updated successfully 4 times to no avail. Partially GoPros fault for not updating the instructions nomenclature.
first the manual and website says choose the phone and tablet option on the camera. well the problem is in the firmware update it is no longer called that, it's called GoPro App now. So that was a fools errand for a while trying to figure out why the new update wasn't giving me the "phone and Tablet " option
Next I didn't know I had caps lock on when I chose a password online for the wifi connection so the phone wouldn't connect obviously. Then I poked around in the files down loaded onto the SD card and found the wifi settings file and that's where I found the caps lock mistake.
in the "settings.in" file contains the wifi name and password. edit it in notepad then reload the update files accept this one onto your SD card and walla! you changed your wifi info without visiting the website. It's how I discovered I had caps lock on when I did my password online.
When the update is successful the hero changes the update.cmd file so it doesn't relaunch the update when powering up so be sure to reload that one from the manual download on your computer.
hope this helps -

I updated my GoPro Silver & received GoPro App on my smartphone. Blue light blanks on the camera, but smartphone doesn’t find the camera. What I have to do?

Hi, I bouhgt BE3 and installed updated as it was said in manual. Wifi worked with remote and with app, but several days when I started camera and switches on wifi, blue indicator just ON (continuously, not flashing) and I can't connect anything to camera. I tried to instal new firmware with different ways, no result. I did "hard reset" , no result
Did you meet such problem? Could you recommend something? -
-
OK i finally worked this out.
Do the firmware update as pre the Gopro site.
After the update is sucessfull goto the settings on the camera by pressing the mode/onoff button, when u get there pressthe sellect/shoot button. scroll through to wireless settings.Select, then you will have a wifi symbol with the work off above it. hit select again. you are then in a menu. From this choose Gopro app... and winner winner chicken dinner. From the wireless menu on your phone you should see the go pro now.... select it and type in your password..... open app and BOOM happy days.
Tested with H3B and samsung GS3 -

I have uploaded a video on how to connect you hero 3 to the iphone gopro app!

Got it working!
iPhone 4 + GoPro Hero 3 Black Edition
1. Follow the update steps on website
(note: don't skip the option to create a network name and password)
2. Turn off iPhone Cellular data
3. Turn on GoPro wireless with side button
(note: my blue light did not start flashing... didn't matter)
4. Go to setup > wireless controls > select "GO PRO APP"
(note: don't worry about the phone/tablet option - got mine working without it)
5. On your iPhone, find your GoPro camera's wireless network and connect
6. Open GoPro app on iPhone and select connect + control
Disabling cellular data is what finally solved the problem for me. I was also concerned that the blue wifi indication light wasn't flashing, and that I couldn't find the phone/tablet option in the wireless controls menu. Turns out those things did not matter. Hopefully this helps some of you with the same problem. -
